Today Yahoo launched a personal finance site that offers information on retirement, insurance, loans, taxes, real estate, and money management. Yahoo added the new section to appeal to user’s day-to-day finance needs. As ABC Money writes, “Yahoo decided to widen its focus to include more simple money matters because many people are more interested in balancing their checkbooks than juggling their stock portfolios.” Like Yahoo’s other verticals, Personal Finance will contain news, community, rich media and branded content.

Personal Finance joins Yahoo Food, Yahoo Auto, and others, in Yahoo’s growing portfolio of “lifestyle” microsites. Yahoo is using their “lifestyle” sites to appeal to a mainstream audience, thus attracting both users and advertisers. Analysts remain skeptical over whether this will help pull yahoo out of their year-long slump.
