We’ve got a quick update to apprise you of a couple changes Google’s been making to two of their applications this week.
Not exactly House, but it’ll do Google’s been testing a diagnostics tab for the AdSense console for a couple of months now, but this morning it’s available to all users. Essentially, it’s a simple tool that tells you if any of your web page URLs are blocked from the AdSense crawler, so you can climb in there with an inter-plunger and get to work.
Major reasons why the AdSense crawler can’t get to your page: a) there’s something up with your robots.txt file (it’s configured incorrectly, or absent), or b) your site is down (or the server was down when the crawler dropped by). More detail at the AdSense help page, which warns that fixes won’t be detected immediately, as the AdSense crawler only comes by once a week. Barry Schwartz has more coverage here, including a nice screenshot.
Just in time for Q2 earnings… In a classic case of “you squawked, we listened,” Google’s crowing about the debut of “a few small new features” on their much hyped, little used Finance site. They include:
- A “module” for Google News, showing up on the right hand side of the business section
- The option to add and maintain more than one portfolio for the same user
- Handy links to SeekingAlpha, which offers free transcripts of earnings conference calls
There’s also a few more minor changes listed at the Official Google blog. We’ve got more about Google Finance here.
