If the SEM industry is a gold mine, is there still any of the shiny stuff left up in them thar’ hills?

Jennifer Laycock asks this question in this great article titled Considering a Career Change? Get in Before the Boom Subsides in which she takes a 50,000 foot view of the SEM industry and the opportunities in it, both past and present.

Here’s a snip:

“The whole point of a gold rush is that the first few folks tend to get really rich and the rest tend to work themselves to the bones for average pay. I wonder if our industry isn’t approaching that same reality. Until then, for a skilled self-starter that’s willing to learn and relocate, I sure am seeing an awful lot of unfilled job postings.”

On a related note, Search Engine Watch has an article this week on what SEMs should be paid.
