Valentine’s Day: tis’ the season for love – on the internet, that is. With the burgeoning popularity of online socializing, who needs to go to a seedy bar to find their next love interest when they can see the profile of their potential Mr. or Mrs. Right from the comfort of their very own home? Online dating sites are popping up all over, and it’s no longer uncommon to hear of couples who met online.
Internet dating first gained popularity in the late 90’s: Match.com, considered the field’s pioneer, launched in April 1995. Today the site boasts an international clientele, and is at least partly responsible for the happiness of countless couples. The recent growth of online socializing portals is exciting news for the innovators of online match-making, depressed singles everywhere, and (most importantly) search engine marketing firms. In order to reap the benefits of the sudden surge in online dating, websites must stay competitive so they stand out among their jealous rivals.
While online dating is more widespread than ever – just check out the endorsements by celebrities such as Dr. Phil – paid membership is down. This can be due to several factors, but improving search campaigns is certain to increase membership interest. When I searched for “dating online,” I was presented with a number of organic and paid advertisements – all with similar copy. Snore! There are about 100 million single Americans out there who are probably thinking the same thing.
While many are skeptical about online dating, it has its perks. A geographically unlimited dating pool is one of the many things people enjoy about it. Interest is definitely on the rise and one thing is clear – there is a large pool of online daters just waiting to find their match. They just need the right message to catch their eye and push them to explore the online dating scene.
