Despite their poor posture and glazed-over stares, chronic Net users aren’t as lonely as you’d think, according to a new study by Pew Internet & American Life titled The Strength of Internet Ties.

The survey of over 2200 adults found that the Internet often works to expand an individual’s existing social network and can even work to encourage individuals to meet others in person and/or talk on the phone.

The study also found that Internet users are more like to recieve help on a number of major life decisions, including finance and health care.

There was also an interesting bit about email – findings that reveal email is being used in addition to, not in replacement of, other forms of contact.
