Domain Names in Disguise

You can’t trust anyone these days.

A new US Congressional report warns that one in 20 domain names are fake.

The study took a look at a random sampling of 300 .com, .net and .org domains and found that as much of 5% of these sites were registered by individuals concealing their true identity with fake or misleading information.

Even worse, many of them weren’t even bothering to create logical substitutes for the missing information – phone number fields were found containing (999)999-9999 and zip codes listed as XXXXX.
