Don’t believe everything you read, especially if you’re reading it on the Internet.

Whether it’s bonsai kittens, curing jellyfish stings with a can of Coke or Bill Gates giving away his hard-earned dollars there’s a wealth of misinformation among the information.

Even when you’re dealing with more academic subject matter it can be difficult to gauge the accuracy of information. Such attention to detail is critical when writing for a research paper or publication.

Wendy Boswell has written a nice thought piece for Lifehacker.com in which she presents a basic checklist of questions to ask yourself as you evaluate an information source. It’s especially well-suited for college students though those a few years out of school would do well to read it as a refresher.
