Neither meta engine nor desktop search, community or social-based search engines rely primarily on the power of users to determine factors such as rank and relevancy.

PCMag.com takes a look at 5 such engines in this article called Share and Play Tag on the New Web Playground.

Services tested include: Clipmarks, Jeteye, del.icio.us, Yahoo MyWeb 2.0, and Shadows.

I was familiar with most of these except for Shadows, which has a pretty swanky-looking interface. Good to see Jeteye’s still around – I thought they had fallen off the face of the Earth after dropping out of a 5 Questions interview midway through.

More on social networking and what it means for the investment market in this article in the San Francisco Chronicle.
