Phone Directory Providers Wheel & Deal

Although their offline versions are more commonly used as doorstops than reference manuals, phone directory providers are still making news as big players in the online ad industry . These two stories are proof:

The first has to do with WhitePages.com, who just entered into a two-year distribution deal with Verizon. WhitePages.com will be providing residential listings for Verizon’s SuperPages.com. WhitePages.com is hoping to get the traffic it takes to become one of the top 50 most-trafficked sites. Read more here.

Yellow Pages company R.H. Donnelley Corporation has just closed a deal to acquire rival Dex Media for a little over $4 billion in cash and stock. The deal brings together two of the nation’s largest yellow pages companies and could put them in a better position to win over publishers for online rivals like Yahoo and Google.
