Search engine marketing? They’re doing just fine without it, thank you.

Internet Retailer has an article today on web retailer BodyBuilding.com, who relies exclusively on organic search and word of mouth to generate its $48 million in annual sales.

What’s their secret? Put simply – content. Says CEO Ryan DeLuca:

“We have almost 400 writers, many of whom are experts on their topic, contributing content to the site. We have almost 16,000 pages in the library and adding more all the time. We get good word-of-mouth advertising.”

The site’s primary source of traffic is bodybuilders who come to the site to read articles, many of which are plugged in its online store that fills upwards of 1,850 orders per day.

Gary Stein has commentary.

By the way, if you’ve never heard of this child bodybuilder called “Little Hercules” check him out. Pretty disturbing, to say the least.
