Life Outside the Index: unGoogleables

They’re called “unGoogleables” and if you’re a marketer they may be your worst nightmare. These are the individuals that exist completely outside Google’s reach, those lucky few whose names have managed to escape the almighty search engine’s index.

Several unGoogleables spoke to Wired News on the condition that their names not be used in the story (natch). Here’s a quick snip:

“These unGoogleables don’t post online, blog, publish or build web pages using their own names. They’re careful about revealing information to businesses, belong to few organizations that can leak personal data, and never submit online resumes – all common ways that Google captures your data.”

As concerns over online privacy grow, will being unGoogleable become a sought-after status? I can’t see someone like myself caring, though it seems like more and more people are willing to pay for such a service.

Mike of Techdirt says that type of paranoia is “so last millennium”, though I would expect someone in the witness protection program would tell him different. .
