Some would call it blogging in bad taste, others an excuse for an all-out smackdown.
A clueless retailer used a fictional blog character to comment on another blogger’s relationship with his estranged father as a roundabout means of promoting their kitchen cleanser.
The Word of Mouth Marketing Association blog has the tale of Tom Coates, a BBC employee who hasn’t spoken to his dad in 30 years. He talked about it in a posting on his blog, to which blogger “Barry Scott” remarked that he sent through a similar ordeal himself and that Tom should get in touch if he needs additional support.
Small problem: both Barry and his blog are fake. I would show you the blog but as of this morning the company has taken it down. Guess word spreads quickly. Check out the official apology from the company’s PR agency here. It’s pretty lame.
