Bad Taste Is a Crime: BitTorrent Conviction Hits Hong Kong

What’s more depressing? Being busted for piracy or being publicly outed as someone who was willing to risk arrest in order to watch DareDevil?

Luckily Chan Nai-ming doesn’t have to chose. The Hong Kong man was recently brought up on charges in what’s believed to be world’s first conviction for copyright infringement over BitTorrent networks.

Right now Chan’s out on bail, a hearing is set for November 7th. He could face as much as 4 years in jail and a large fine. Hong Kong authorities say that download activity has dropped 80% since his arrest.

If you’ll remember back in May we reported on some of the first arrests in the US. Now the crackdown is spreading overseas.
