You’d think geek criminals would be more smart, but here’s some evidence to the contrary.

A German thief broke into a stranger’s car and stole his in-car navigation system. He then auctioned it online to the highest bidder. Unfortunately that bidder also happened to be the same person he had stolen the stereo from. Police arrived at his house posing as the bidder and promptly arrested the 21-year-old thief, who later confessed.

In a related story, a Kentucky man was convicted of 19 counts of mail fraud as part of an eBay laptop scam that cost victims close to $20,000. Not one to go down without a fight, Scott Winingear drew a knife on officers and sprayed one in the face with a fire extinguisher before being subdued. His sentence? Just shy of two years. Sounds fair. Wait, I mean not.
