A recent study published by Reuters shows Tier 2 search engines catching up to the big guys.
Both AOL and Ask Jeeves showed double-digit growth in the number of user searches in the second quarter, while Google and Yahoo experienced much slower growth. Searches on MSN actually declined.
Even still, Google’s got little reason to worry. The search engine nabbed 47% of all search queries, maintaining a firm grasp on its #1 position. Yahoo came in second at 22%, with MSN at 12%, AOL at 5% and MyWay at 2%.
Incidentally, if you’ve never heard of MyWay, check them out. It’s a property of Ask Jeeves that combines search features from Google, Ask Jeeves, Yahoo! and LookSmart along with a full-scale portal offering free of banners and pop-ups. Read more about their mission here.
