Sing a song of piracy, and start with Harry Potter.

Less than 12 hours after it hit the stores, the entire text of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had been scanned, run through optical character recognition software, proofread, and made publicly available.

Kind of makes author JK Rowling’s decision not to make e-books available for the widely popular series seem kind of silly, doesn’t it?

From her lawyer:

“This has not been an area that we have sought to license.”

There was also something about the sky not being blue and having his head located in his posterior, but the news release left that part out.

Joi Ito links to a video of a man shouting the ending at a crowd of people waiting in line to buy the book. Mean? Yes. Hilarious? Definitely.
