When I was a teen, my pre-mall preparations consisted of grabbing a can of Aqua Net, giving my bangs a quick
tease
or two and high-tailing it over to the food court.

Nowadays, it’s a little different. Most teens would rather chat it up online rather than skulk around Mrs. Fields hoping to score a free cookie. Pre-hangout preparations are more likely to consist of filling out a profile than do any work on one’s appearance.

Such is the case with Yub.com, an online mall where people “meet, hang, and get up to 25% back when they shop.” Before you go dismissing it as another (yawn) shopping service, consider some of the big league retailers on board:

  • Target
  • Apple
  • Macy’s
  • Sephora
  • Foot Locker

If you haven’t figured it out by now, “Yub” is “Buy” spelled backwards and stands for “Young Urban Buyer”. Though its 20-something founders may resemble cast-offs from The OC, their idea of linking social networking with shopping is a smart one, particularly when it comes to reaching a younger consumer set. So smart, in fact, that Scoble gives them a quick shout-out on his blog.

Good luck, guys.

cast-off, ay? i think you need to rewind your TiVo to the episode where the killers performed and look closely for a young urban 20-something founder…

  2. Erin says:

No way! That rules. The Killers are killer.
