Interesting debate going on over in Search Engine Watch Forums – apparently a mom and pop mortgage shop is being sued by Seattle Mortgage over their use of the domain name “seattle-mortgage-loans.com” as well as the phrase “seattle mortgage” in their search advertising.
To claim that “seattle” or “mortgage” or even “seattle mortgage” are specific enough to trademark sounds pretty dubious to us, though mom and pop may have a harder time making that case for their domain name.
