Tags
Descriptive keywords that are attached to a blog posts, bookmarks, photos or other forms of online content. This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system.
Tagging
Labeling digital content with a set of keywords, for the purpose of categorization and recovery. Tagging is most often used for social bookmarking sites, blog directories, and other user generated media.
Tag Cloud
A list of tag groups displayed in “cloud” formation and in varying font sizes. A tag in larger font denotes a larger or more frequently visited group of tags, whereas a smaller font denotes a smaller or less popular tag.
Target Site Analysis
Analysis of traffic patterns, keyword density, link popularity, and structure, for a specific website.
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)
The standards that enable one network to translate web data received from another dissimilar network. TCP and IP are the essential components of the Internet.
Technology Costs
Fees for tools and services that support a search marketing campaign, beyond initial media cost. Technology costs may include tracking services, XML spidering tools, bid management software, or any other special solution that helps us better manage a search campaign. Some popular tools include: DART, Atlas, Quigo, and GoToast.
Threads
Strands of related conversation on a social network or website which do not necessarily appear in a linear fashion. On a forum they will be defined by messages that use the same subject. On blogs they are less clearly defined, but emerge through comments and trackbacks.
Title Tag
An HTML tag defining the title of a page, as displayed at the top of the browser. The title is an important element used by search engines to determine a page’s relevance to a given search query.
TLD (Top Level Domain)
The rightmost extension at the end of a domain name following the dot. Top Level Domains include both Generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) and Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs).
Trackback
One of three types of linkbacks or methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking, and so referring, to their articles.
Tracking Tag
Unique URLs that are assigned to specific keywords and search engines in a campaign. The unique tags are generated by a tracking system such as DoubleClick DART.
Traffic
The number of files served or visitors to a website. Traffic may be measured by hits, impressions, clicks, page views, visitors, unique visitors, or other indications of website activity.
Twitter
A free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as “tweets”), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.
