Open Directory Project
The Open Directory Project (ODP) is a site directory run by volunteer editors. The ODP is used by Lycos, Hotbot, AOL-Netfind, Netscape Netcenter, and the home base www.dmoz.org itself. Currently there are around 700,000 hand picked and selected sites in the directory.
Open Source Software
Any computer software whose source code is available under a license that permits users to study, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified form. It is often developed in a public, collaborative manner.
Organic Search
Search results which are ranked on a page by their relevance to a search term, without any influence given to paid listings. Ranking is typically handled by the search engine’s algorithm. Google is currently the largest organic search engine.
Overture
A search engine that returns results based on paid placement rather than algorithmic rankings.Overture was purchased by Yahoo! in late 2003, and forms the core of Yahoo's current Yahoo Search Marketing products.
