Natural Language Processing
The intelligent translation of natural language phrases into keyword search queries. Natural language processing programs use multi-level lingustic statistics and analysis to “understand” human language queries.
Natural Link
A hyperlink included in natural language text for the purpose of expanding an indea, and not necessarily with the intention of increasing link popularity.
Natural Traffic
Traffic from directly typed-in domain names or URLs.
Negative Match
The act of preventing a paid listing from showing against a purchased keyword if a specific word or phrase is appears in the user’s search term. Ex: If you own the keyword "tennis shoes" and you add the negative keyword “Reebok”, your ad will not appear if a user searches for “Reebok tennis shoes”. Negative Matching is currently exclusive to Google and Overture.
Net Profit
The profit or revenue generated by a campaign or listing after all resulting costs (such as media and technology costs) have been subtracted.
Niche Market
A specifically-focused market segment. Niche markets are often discussed in the context of the long tail – or the economic concept that the distribution of weath on the internet is a “long tail” made up of millions of niche markets.
No Follow Attribute
A attribute that directs search engines to skip certain pages: rel=”nofollow”.
