Feed

An XML file that provides the content of a website, blog or other information service, with all of the formatting information stripped out. Feeds allow sites to disseminate real-time information updates from their website without requiring users to visit them via subscription. Users frequently subscribe to Feeds through a Feed Reader (e.g. Google Reader) (see also: RSS)

Feed Reader

Software which allows a user to easily aggregate multiple feeds in a single interface. Feed Readers are available both as desktop (e.g. Pluck) and web-based (Google Reader) applications.

Flash

Software developed by Macromedia that is commonly used to create animated graphics for websites, games and other desktop presentations.

Flight Dates

The period of time over which a campaign runs.

Folksonomy

A collective organization or taxonomy of content created by the consumers of that content. Typically generated by associating tags, labels or keywords with the content. The tagging system of Flickr of Delicious are examples of this social indexing.

Followers

Refers to an of individual/user who “follows” or subscribes to a feed on Twitter.

Forum

An online discussion group. Online services and bulletin board services (BBS's) provide a variety of forums, in which participants with common interests can exchange open messages. Forums are sometimes called newsgroups.

Footprint

The elements of a web page that affect search engine ranking but are not located on the page itself. Ex: Cached pages, RSS feeds, link-backs, etc.

Forum

An open online discussion space for individuals who share a niche interest.

Frames

An HTML construct that allows multiple windows to appear within one browser. The page may seem to remain static while click behavior causes a specific frame to be updated. Most search engines will not index a framed site or the contents within.

Froogle

Google's shopping comparison engine.

Full-text index

An index containing every word of every document cataloged, including stop words.

Fuzzy search

A search that will find matches even when words are only partially spelled or outright misspelled.
